| "Statistics
is the mathematical science involved in the
application of quantitative principles to the
collection, analysis, and presentation of numerical
data. The practice of statistics utilizes data from some
population in order to describe it meaningfully, to draw
conclusions from it, and make informed decisions. The
population may be a community, an organization, a
production line, a service counter, or a phenomenon such
as the weather. Statisticians determine which
quantitative model is correct for a given type of
problem and they decide what kinds of data should be
collected and examined. Applied statistics concerns the
application of the general methodology to particular
problems." |

Finance and all social science topics related to
these disciplines to discuss their research and to
exchange ideas.

The aim of the
conference is to bring together economists from
different fields of Applied Economic Research in
order to share methods and ideas. For ICOAE
contributions are welcome from all areas of Economic
Science (id est all subject areas included in
EconLit) that use applied econometrics as their
methods of analyses, with special interest in
advances in longitudinal data. Indicative fields
include Applied Micro- and Macroeconomics, Applied
Financial Economics, Applied Agricultural Economics
etcetera.

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) was
founded one hundred years ago, on January 23, 1920,
to "encourage ... investigation, research, and
discovery, and the application of knowledge ... in
the fields of economic, social, and industrial
science." At the recent American Economic
Association Annual Meeting, a panel of NBER research
associates documented and reviewed the
organization’s contributions to economic science.
